Singer, Songwriter, Speaker, Author, Creator
Becky Wright was born in Tulsa, OK, in the back-room apartment where her parents lived with her 17-month-old brother. The daughter of a brilliant architect father and a musically gifted mother, Becky began playing the piano at the age of two. She composed her first piano piece at the age of five, and was writing lyrics and complete songs as a nine-year-old. Finding faith in God as a twelve-year-old changed her life. She began playing the piano and singing at church, and wrote her first gospel song at thirteen.
Her first two albums came in 1991 & 1993, as she finished her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northeastern State University (Tahlequah, OK) and went on to become a school music teacher. Over 300 songs later, Becky's songs have been recorded and used by a dozen other artists in Christian and country music, videos, schools and churches, as well as on her own five albums. "No Denying" was released in 2007 (Lamon Records), and "The Heart of Adoption" in 2011 (Astounded Records, Becky's own label). She is a frequent speaker, teacher, and/or worship leader at women's ministry events, churches, civic groups, schools and universities, adoption / orphan/ foster care conferences, crisis pregnancy ministries, and anywhere a door is opened.
Following the tragic death of her younger sister Elizabeth in 2004, things changed forever.
"Things like this tend to make us examine the motives of our hearts, and if what we do from day to day-- will last beyond the grave," Becky shares. "I'm not trying to be famous... I just want to please God and make an eternal difference in this world, and in the lives of the people I touch."
Still reeling from the shock of their family tragedy, a phone call from Nashville changed the course of Becky’s life and career. A riveting course ensued, like a roller coaster of faith, and Becky was led to begin singing her own songs again, not just writing for others... since the story was most powerful coming from the one who actually lived it. She began sharing her experiences and speaking about priorities, grief, motivations, career choices, etc. before school, civic, and church audiences nationwide. During her 2008 summer concert tour, a series of unexpected events once again changed the course of the Wright family’s lives, and Becky’s focus and mission. She (along with Tommy Brandt) were named the "Duo of the Year" at the 2006 Agape Fest, and Becky was the 2008 & 2011 "Female Songwriter of the Year" winner.
Becky's devotional book, 40 Days Before the Throne is expected in the fall of 2016. Her memoir, The Architect's Daughter, is slated for the Spring of 2017. Becky describes it as "...not just an architect's daughter, but realizing that GOD has been and remains the greater Architect of my life... it is His design, His plan, His providence that has written the story of my life. I pray that readers will see the hand of God in their own lives as they read my story."
